No Butts - Rooftop living near Elephant & Castle
Our architect's principal design concept for Newington Butts is the "internal/external space", which forms the heart of each building. These areas, bisected by elevated walkways, offer opportunities for dual aspect homes, with the benefit of natural light and ventilation, plus dramatic atrium-like spaces. A rooftop residents garden offers fine views across London.
Hunters were requested to design Dolphin Livings largest development to date at Newington Butts, on the Lambeth / Southwark border. Hunters were subsequently employed as lead consultant architect by Allen Build to provide construction detail under a design & build contract.
Newington Butts consists of 73 homes in two separate buildings. The larger building accommodates intermediate rent for Dolphin Living with the smaller building social rented properties. The portion of the larger building that falls within Southwark contains privately rented apartments. A landscaped residents' garden separates the two buildings at the first floor. 480m2 of retail space occupies much of the ground floor fronting Newington Butts.
The development is adjacent to the regeneration of Elephant and Castle in South London. Dolphin Living is a provider of intermediate affordable housing (key worker) for Central London.
