George's Week at Work

14/4/10

This week, George Calver, is being mentored at Hunters to finesse his competition entry for Affinity Suttons 'Make Bethnal Green' in collaboration with the RIBA.

One of ten finalists for the brand new competition, all ten get a week to be mentored at different practices to improve their project to win the competition. George, studying at Oxford Brookes University, said 'Having the opportunity to refine my design ideas with a professional architect has been a great experience. Everyone at Hunters has been really supportive and their input and ideas have been invaluable to me at this stage of the competition.'

Alan Boswell, Design Director at Hunters added 'George has come up with some really inspiring ideas, his scheme is very high density and he is working to provide more external spaces and more verticality in the design'.

All the entrants have to present their work back to the judges on Friday at the Affinity Sutton offices.

The competition was open to Part 2 architectural students and the students are challenged to generate design ideas which would make a positive contribution to the environment and Make Bethnal Green. George had to consider what could be built on the same site today, taking into consideration the 21st Century sustainability agenda, modern building techniques and architectural approaches, together with the financial constraints of the affordable housing sector.
